Thales Lelo

Research Lead

Thales Lelo is an Assistant Professor of Media Studies in the Department of Communication at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. He is also a Researcher at the National Institute of Science and Technology in Informational Disputes and Sovereignties in Brazil and a Faculty Affiliate at the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. His research focuses on media and democracy, with particular attention to disinformation studies, the adoption of new technologies by civil society, and the political economy of communication.
 
Lelo’s work has received funding from various organizations, including the São Paulo Research Foundation, the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, and the ESRC Digital Good Network. His research has been published in leading international journals, including the Journal of Communication, New Media & Society, and Communication Theory.
