Yena Kang is a PhD student in Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research areas include digital culture, social movements, and critical platform studies, all of which intersect with race and gender. Her current work grapples with racialized digital politics in the aftermath of anti-Asian racism and police brutality on the African American community.
Her second line of research involves transnational cultural flows via digital platforms and reception studies. In particular, she is interested in the cultural production and circulation of Korean popular culture by global fans and how that challenges and (re)produces cultural hegemony.
